- Hi all.
-
- I have been following the debate about Amiga <> Peecee. I find it amusing
- because I thought the fighting was over. Well, I think as long as there
- is politics there will be two views about everything... I would like
- to share my views with fellow Amiga =^) users, if you dont like to read
- this sort of material, too bad, you shouldnt have downloaded it then...
-
- First... There was some debating over the graphics capibalities of the
- the two machines. I myself do some ray-tracing on a bog standard A1200.
- If I had to do the same work on a comparitive PeeCee machine I would
- not be ray-tracing at all. The guys sitting behind their Pentium machines
- with 64 bit graphics accel. have power... but they need 32mb ram and
- a HUGE HD to do something thats worth looking at. If ANYBODY out there
- can show me 80286 without FPU and just 2 megs of ram + windows in the
- background doing ray-tracing, please phone me... Ok, I admit I cant do
- any complex objects but atleast my output is 24bit and not a 256 col GIF.
-
- I have NEVER in my short life seen a PeeCee used for Television productions.
- All I see is Silicon Graphics (Nice machines!!) and Amiga with Video Toaster.
- We here in South Africa use Amiga and Silicon Graphics for our adverts and
- major productions... SeaQuest and Bab5 are good examples of Amiga video...
- I dont see Peecee's whipping up Terminator2 effects.. If there are please
- inform me of productions by Peecee's. (I'll make a note not to watch them...)
-
- The Amiga was dubbed a games machine... I dont now why. I dont even play
- games... Maybe the odd adventure now and platform (PeeCee's need some vert
- scrolloing abilities.) later. If you want to play games get a Jaguar or
- Saturn. To play games on a PC you need a pentium 75 with S3 video card
- and a 840 Meg HD, a 3x CD Rom and 16bit sound card (and dont forget the mouse
- with a non-compatible mouse driver) Then the games dont even have a plot or
- story. I played Phantasmagoria and Need for speed on a Pentium 66 with quad
- speed CD rom and 16bit sound card + PCI video card. I was shocked to see
- the thing jerk like doom on on a 386 sx.. If you wanna spend $3500 on a
- good PC to play games, dont cry on the Amiga owner's shoulder if you were
- dissapointed.
-
- I agree the Amiga's sound has been found wanting but compare our 8bit to
- Sound Blaster 8Bit... Not even close to Amiga's sound. My friends rave
- about their stereo sound... so, I also have stereo!
-
- I'm not even going to talk about the Operating System diffs. I could go
- on forever. What, your Hard disk full because of a 40 meg swap file, shame..
- too bad bettter get yourself a 4.8 gig drive.. Anybody had a look at the
- size of executables on Amiga and PeeCee??? The commands on PC are about
- twice the size of Amiga exe's. Dont even mention it took the PC more
- than 9 years to get 256 char names... and it doesnt even work under Dos...
- Oh, I forgot some programs dont work under Win95, so you'll have to keep
- dos on your system.... HA!! Enjoy your PeeCee's, but I'll stick to my Amiga
- like i've done for the last 7 years.
-
- Thanks to all the guys still supporting the nr.1 machine.. Amiga.
-
- Cheers,
- "JellyB"
